Vergelijkende literatuurwetenschap

Mieke Bal (1946-) studeerde Frans aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam en promoveerde in 1977 aan de Universiteit Utrecht. Als grondlegger van de narratologie publiceerde zij in het Frans Narratologie (1977), een nieuwe theorie die de Literatuurwetenschap voorgoed veranderde. Haar boek De theorie van vertellen en verhalen (1978) is in vele talen vertaald. Mieke Bal bestudeert culturele objecten altijd vanuit meerdere disciplines en was een pionier van de Cultural Analysis. Vrouwenstudies/genderstudies stond aan de bakermat van interdisciplinair onderzoek. Mieke Bal, feministe en groot pleitbezorger van interdisciplinariteit richtte in 1993 de Amsterdam School for Cultural Analysis (ASCA) op. De collectie is geen verzamelaarscollectie, de boeken waren nodig om onderzoek te doen. Het geheel is een perfecte afspiegeling van het interdisciplinaire en internationale karakter van haar wetenschappelijke carrière.

Mieke Bal (1946-) studied French at the University of Amsterdam and she took her doctoral degree in 1977 at the University of Utrecht. As a founder of the narratology she published, in French, Narratologie (1977), a new theory which changed the literary theory permanently. Her book De theorie van vertellen en verhalen (1978) has been translated in multiple languages. Mieke Bal researches cultural objects always from multiple disciplines and she was a pioneer of the Cultural Analysis. Women's studies/genderstudies stood at the cradle of interdisciplinary research. Mieke Bal, feminist and great advocate of interdisciplinarity, founded the Amsterdam School for Cultural Analysis (ASCA) in 1993. The collection is not a collector's collection, the books were necessary to do research. The whole is a perfect reflection of the interdisciplinarity and international character of her scientific career.

Willem de Clercq (1795-1844) was koopman, bankier en literator. Hij was een invloedrijke figuur binnen de beweging van het Réveil. Het belangrijkste onderdeel van de collectie wordt gevormd door de dagboeken waarin De Clercq een levendige beschrijving geeft van Nederland tussen 1810 en 1844. In die dagboeken zijn geloofsbeleving, de toestand van de economie en het gezinsleven de belangrijkste thema's. De Clercq deed ook verslag van wat hij las. Van de vele duizenden brieven die De Clercq van Réveilvrienden en anderen ontving, nemen de meer dan 1800 brieven van zijn jeugdvriend Isaäc da Costa een speciale plaats in omdat zij de neerslag vormen van een 'romantische vriendschap'. Verder treft men in de collectie materiaal aan dat betrekking heeft op het ouderlingschap van De Clercq in de Waalse Kerk en zijn onofficiële werk voor de zending in binnen- en buitenland.

Willem de Clercq (1795-1844) was a merchant, banker and literary man. He was an influential person within the Réveil movement. The most important part of the collection is formed by his diaries, in which De Clercq vividly depicts the Netherlands between 1810 and 1844. The most important subjects in the diaries are the way in which people experience their religion, the state of the economy and family life. De Clercq also wrote about the things he read. Among the thousands of letters which De Clercq received from his friends of the Réveil and from others, the more than 1,800 letters from his old friend Isaäc da Costa are especially noteworthy, because they reflect a 'romantic friendship'. Besides this, the collection contains material about his position as a deacon of the Walloon Church and his unofficial work for the missionary both in the Netherlands and in foreign countries.
