De Bibliotheek van het Boekenvak werd in 1845 opgericht als een vakbibliotheek voor leden van de Vereeniging ter bevordering van de belangen des Boekhandels. Later werd het verzamelbeleid verbreed tot de documentatie van de geschiedenis van het Nederlandse boekbedrijf. In 1958 werd de complete bibliotheek in bruikleen gegeven aan de Universiteitsbibliotheek Amsterdam. De collectie omvat een uitgebreide vakbibliotheek op gebied van het boekwezen (boekwetenschap, kopijrecht, typografie, grafische industrie, drukkerij, uitgeverij, boekhandel) en een grote verzameling bronnenmateriaal over de geschiedenis van het Nederlandse boek (boekproductie, boekhandel, boekwezen). De archieven van Nederlandse boekbedrijven en brancheorganisaties, boekhandelscatalogi, letterproeven vormen een belangrijk deel van de collectie. De Bibliotheek van het Boekenvak is een van de meest omvangrijke en veelzijdige boekhistorische collecties ter wereld. Voor de geschiedenis van het Nederlandse boekbedrijf vanaf de zeventiende eeuw omvat de collectie essentiële bronnen en documentatie.

The 'Bibliotheek van het Boekenvak', the library of the Book Trade, was founded as a professional library for members of the 'Vereeniging ter bevordering van de belangen des Boekhandels', the association promoting the interests of the book trade. Later the collection policy broadened and documentation on the history of the book trade was included. In 1958 the entire library was given on loan to the library of the University of Amsterdam. The collection contains an extensive professional library on books – including book history, copyright, typography, graphical industry, printing, publishing and book trade – and a large amount of source material about the history of books in the Netherlands – including the production of books, book trade and books in general. Important parts of the collection are the archives of Dutch book traders, booksellers' catalogues, catalogues of types and archives of printing businesses. Besides this, archives of a number of organizations and institutions active in the book trade are also kept. The library is one of the largest and most all-round book historical collections in the world. The collection contains essential sources and documents for the history of the Dutch book trade from the seventeenth century onwards.

A. Gerits & Son B.V. is een boekverkoper die gespecialiseerd is in het verkopen van zeldzame boeken en boekencollecties uit de geesteswetenschappen en sociale wetenschappen. Gedurende haar bestaan heeft de onderneming vele zeldzame en bijzondere collecties verkocht aan particulieren en universiteitsbibliotheken in Europa, de Verenigde Staten en Japan.

De zaak werd oorspronkelijk gestart in 1981 door Anton Gerits (1930) als A. Gerits – Rare Books nadat hij eerder ervaring met het boekenvak had opgedaan bij Nijhoff, Ludwig Rosenthal’s Antiquariaat en Elsevier. Door zijn grote internationale netwerk wist Gerits veel bijzondere collecties in het buitenland onder te brengen.

Het archief bevat voornamelijk correspondentie met (potentiële) klanten, facturen van in- en verkoop en overige financiële administratie uit de periode 1985-2000. Ook bevat het archief catalogi van A. Gerits & Son B.V., lijsten met aangeboden collecties en de kopers daarvan en enkele documenten van zakelijke reizen.

A. Gerits & Son B.V. is a bookdealer specialised in selling rare books and book collections in the field of the humanities and social sciences. Throughout its existence, the firm has sold numerous rare and special collections to private buyers and university libraries in Europe, the United States and Japan.

The firm was originally established by Anton Gerits (1930) in 1981 as A. Gerits – Rare Books. Gerits previously gained experience in the book business working for Nijhoff, Ludwig Rosenthal’s Antiquariaat and Elsevier. Thanks to his large international network, Gerits managed to find a home for many a special collection abroad.

The archive mainly contains correspondence with existing or prospective clients, purchase and sales invoices and other financial administration from the years 1985-2000. The archive furthermore includes catalogues issued by A. Gerits & Son B.V., lists of collections for sale and their buyers as well as a few business trip documents.

Het archief van Antiquariaat Frits Knuf is vernoemd naar de oprichter van het antiquariaat, Frits (F.A.M.) Knuf (1925-1999). Hij opende in 1953 zijn eerste zelfstandige boekwinkel in Amsterdam. In 1996 verkocht Frits Knuf zijn antiquariaat aan zijn medewerker Anita van Elferen. Het antiquariaat werd door haar voortgezet onder de naam Frits Knuf Antiquarian Books en is tegenwoordig actief onder de naam Knuf Rare Books.

Het archief bestaat voor het grootste deel uit voorraadlijsten en catalogi. Deze vermelden onder meer werken met het thema boekgeschiedenis, uitgaven uit de zeventiende- en achttiende-eeuwse Nederlandse letterkunde en boeken over typografie, bibliografie, papier en bindtechnieken. Het archief bestaat verder uit financiële administratie. Dit zijn voornamelijk uitgaande facturen.

The archive of Antiquariaat Frits Knuf is named after founder Frits (F.A.M.) Knuf (1925-1999), who in 1953 opened his first independent rare bookshop in Amsterdam. In 1996 Frits Knuf sold his antiquarian book business to his colleague Anita van Elferen. She continued the bookshop as Frits Knuf Antiquarian Books, later under the name Knuf Rare Books.

The archive mainly consists of stock lists and catalogues. Some of the themes listed are book history, seventeenth-century and eighteenth-century Dutch literature, typography, bibliography, paper and binding techniques. Accounting, mainly outgoing invoices, make up the rest of the archive.

C.P.J. van der Peet richtte eind jaren veertig in Indonesië en Amsterdam boekhandels en uitgeverijen op. Hij richtte zich in Indonesië op boeken voor het onderwijs en in Nederland op kinderboeken, dichtbundels en non-fictie. Vanaf 1956 was hij alleen nog in Nederland actief en startte hij ook een antiquariaat. Vanaf 1967 beperkte hij zijn activiteiten tot het antiquariaat. Het archief bevat veel productiedossiers van uit te geven publicaties, met werk van bekende schrijvers en illustratoren uit de periode 1949-1967, en is daarmee van belang voor het literair-historisch onderzoek naar die periode. Daarnaast bevat het archief een waardevolle selectie met de hand bijgeschreven antiquariaatscatalogi.

In the late 1940s, C.P.J. van der Peet established bookshops and publishing houses in Indonesia and in Amsterdam. In Indonesia he focused on books for the education market and in the Netherlands on children’s books, poetry volumes and non-fiction. From 1956 he was only active in the Netherlands, where he also began an antiquarian book business. From 1967 he devoted his attention exclusively to his rare bookshop. The archive contains a great number of production files of books that were scheduled to be published, including works by well-known authors and illustrators from the years 1949-1967, making it an important source for literary-historical research into the period. In addition the archive contains a valuable selection of annotated antiquarian catalogues.

De collectie antiquariaatscatalogi van Wed. J.R. van Rossum (ca. 1871-1922) biedt inzicht in de boeken die werden gekocht en gelezen in katholieke kringen vanaf de tweede helft van de negentiende eeuw.

The collection of antiquarian book catalogues brought together by the widow J.R. van Rossum (c.1871-1922) sheds light on the kind of books that were bought and read in Roman-Catholic circles in the Netherlands from the second half of the nineteenth century.

Het archief van de algemene uitgeversmaatschappij Ad. Donker bevat brieven, productiedossiers, fondscatalogi en reclamedrukwerk. De nadruk in het fonds ligt op boeken over Rotterdam en boeken geschreven door Rotterdammers. Daarnaast bevat het fonds een groot aantal titels op psycho-sociaal vlak. De uitgeverij is met name bekend vanwege de uitgave van De kleine prins van Antoine de Saint-Exupéry en van de correspondentie van Erasmus.

The archive of the general publishing company Ad. Donker contains letters, production files, catalogue lists and advertising leaflets. The emphasis in the fund is on books about Rotterdam and books written by Rotterdammers. In addition, the fund contains a large number of titles in the psycho-social field. The publishing house is best known for the publication of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's The Little Prince and for Erasmus's correspondence.

Het archief van de Universitaire Boekhandel Nederland (1960-1985) bestaat uit materiaal afkomstig van Frans Renssen, eigenaar van de eerste uitsluitend medische wetenschappelijke boekhandel in Nederland.
