Affiches op het gebied van verkeers- en bedrijfsveiligheid, ziektepreventie en -bestrijding, afkomstig van over de gehele wereld. Verzameld door de hoogleraren Charlotte Ruys en Arie Querido ten behoeve van het onderwijs in de microbiologie en de sociale geneeskunde aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam. De affiches tonen bedreigingen van de volksgezondheid in de eerste helft van de twintigste eeuw, onder andere tuberculose, kanker, geslachtsziekten en tropische ziekten.

This collection consists of posters from all over the world on traffic safety, occupational health, public health and the prevention of illnesses. The collection was brought together by Charlotte Ruys and Arie Querido, both professors at the University of Amsterdam, for the purpose of education in microbiology and social medicine. The posters show the dangers of major diseases of the first half of the twentieth century, such as tuberculosis, cancer, sexually transmitted diseases and tropical diseases.

De Koninklijke Nederlandsche Maatschappij tot bevordering der Geneeskunst (KNMG) is de beroepsvereniging van Nederlandse artsen. Van meet af aan werd er door bestuur en leden aandacht besteed aan de geschiedenis van de geneeskunst in de Nederlanden. Daartoe werd een grote verzameling historisch materiaal aangelegd, waarvan de uitgebreide bibliotheek het belangrijkste onderdeel is. Er werd verzameld volgens de volgende criteria: uitgaven op het terrein van de geneeskunst en haar hulpwetenschappen, geschreven door een Nederlander en/of gepubliceerd binnen de huidige grenzen van Nederland en de voormalige overzeese gebiedsdelen. Als zodanig is de collectie nagenoeg volledig. Met name onder de uitgaven uit de 15e-18e eeuw zijn vele hoogtepunten, vanuit zowel medisch-historisch als boekhistorisch oogpunt. Op haar verzamelterrein behoort de bibliotheek van de KNMG tot de belangrijkste ter wereld.

The Koninklijke Nederlandsche Maatschappij tot bevordering der Geneeskunst (Royal Dutch Society for advancement of Medicine) is the trade union of the Dutch physicians. From the beginning onwards both board and members highly valued the history of medicine in the Netherlands. Therefore, a large collection of historical material was built, of which the extensive library was the most important part. The material was collected according to the following criteria. In the first place, it had to be published in the field of medicine and its auxiliary sciences. In addition, it had to be written by a Dutchman and/or published within the present boundaries of the Netherlands and overseas territories. As such, the collection is practically complete. It contains many highlights, in particular among the fifteenth to eighteenth century publications. The value of these is large, not only from a medical historical point of view, but also from a book historical point of view. Within the field of medicine the library of the KNMG is one of the most important in the world.

De Nederlandse auteur Siegfried van Praag (1899-2002) groeide op in een Amsterdams joods milieu in de Amsterdamse Plantagebuurt. Binnen het gecultiveerde gezin werd veel aandacht besteed aan de Franse taal en cultuur en werd het zionisme ondersteund. Deze achtergrond is terug te vinden in de thematiek en de sfeer van Van Praags literaire werk dat van 1925 tot 1988 gepubliceerd werd. Naast romans schreef Van Praag essays, artikelen en recensies van boeken voor diverse tijdschriften. Het archief van Siegfried van Praag geeft een bijna compleet overzicht van zijn literaire werk in de vorm van autografen. Een groot deel van het archief bestaat uit correspondentie.

The Dutch author Siegfried van Praag (1899-2002) grew up in the Amsterdam-Jewish milieu of the Plantage neighbourhood in Amsterdam. His cultured family placed heavy emphasis on French language and culture, as well as on support for Zionism. This background is reflected in the themes and atmosphere of Van Praag's literary work published between 1925 and 1988. In addition to novels, Van Praag wrote essays, articles and book reviews for a range of periodicals and magazines. The archive of Siegfried van Praag provides a fairly complete overview of his literary work in the form of original manuscripts. Correspondence makes up a large part of the archive.

De collectie Geschiedenis van de Voeding van de Bijzondere Collecties van de Universiteit van Amsterdam bevat naast vrijwel alle belangrijke Nederlandse kookboeken uit het verleden, een selectie van buitenlandse kookboeken, boeken over diëten, voedingsleer, huishoudkunde, tafelversiering, etiquette en talloze andere onderwerpen. In de Collectie Geschiedenis van de Voeding is een aantal deelcollecties ondergebracht waaronder de Bibliotheek van het Voorlichtingsbureau voor de Voeding, de Collectie Culinair Museum Amersfoort, de Collectie Heyting, en de collecties Johannes van Dam en Witteveen/Cuperus (deels), die beide deel uitmaken van de Gastronomische Bibliotheek. De collectie Geschiedenis van de Voeding biedt een unieke mogelijkheid om onderzoek te doen naar alle vragen op het gebied van de geschiedenis van eten en drinken.

The "Collectie Geschiedenis van de Voeding" (History of Food Collection) at the Special Collections of the University of Amsterdam contains almost all the important Dutch historical cookery books, a selection of foreign cookery books, books about diets, about dietary studies, home economics, table setting, etiquette and numerous other subjects on food and drink. The collection includes several subcollections: the Library of the Netherlands Bureau for Food and Nutrition Education, the "Collectie Culinair Museum Amersfoort" and a part of the "Gastronomische Bibliotheek" (Gastronomic Library). The History of Food Collection offers a unique possibility to research all aspects of the history of food and drink.
