Cornelis Bellaar Spruyt werd in 1877 aangesteld als hoogleraar in de filosofie aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam. Hij ontwikkelde zich tot een aanhanger van Kant. Daarnaast toonde hij een sterke betrokkenheid bij zaken van nationaal belang, zoals uitbreiding van het kiesrecht en algemene dienstplicht. Als secretaris van de Nederlandsch Zuid-Afrikaansche Vereeniging zette hij zich in voor de Boeren in Zuid-Afrika. Het archief bevat een complete weerslag van de activiteiten van C. Bellaar Spruyt vanaf zijn studiejaren tot zijn overlijden, zowel wat betreft zijn studie, zijn hoogleraarschap als zijn politieke activiteiten.

Cornelis Bellaar Spruyt was appointed professor of philosophy at the University of Amsterdam in 1877. He was an adherent of the philosophy of Immanuel Kant and expressed a strong interest in matters of national importance, such as the extension of the right to vote and compulsory military service. In his position as secretary of the Dutch South-African Association he labored for the South-African Boers. The archive reflects his activities very accurately and completely from the time he started studying until his death in 1901, with regard to his study and professorship as well as in his political activities.

Het archief bevat voornamelijk werkmateriaal en correspondentie rond deze uitgave en enkele andere publicaties; daarnaast zijn er collegedictaten betreffende de Griekse en Romeinse oudheid voor de universiteiten van Groningen en Amsterdam.

The professor of prehistory and archeology U.Ph. Boissevain (1855-1930) devoted a large part of his life to the publication of the works of historiographer Cassius Dio (approx. 163-325 A.D.) The collection contains working material and correspondence about the publication of these works as well as about some other publications. Besides this, there are lecture notes on Greek and Roman antiquity which he gave at the University of Groningen and the University of Amsterdam.

Marcel Henri Bregstein was vanaf 1934 hoogleraar in de privaatrechtelijke vakken aan de Nederlandsche Handels-Hoogeschool. Daarna was hij van 1939 tot 1945 hoogleraar Handelsrecht, faillissementsrecht en internationaal privaatrecht en vanaf 1945 tot 1957 hoogleraar burgerlijk recht, recht op de industriële eigendom en burgerlijk procesrecht aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam. In het archief bevinden zich stukken betreffende zijn onderwijsactiviteiten. Daarnaast zijn er ook stukken betreffende lezingen en publicaties.

Marcel Henri Bregstein was Professor of Private Law at the Nederlandsche Handels-Hoogeschool (Netherlands School of Commerce) in Rotterdam from 1934. After that he was Professor of Commercial Law, Insolvency Law and International Private Law at the University of Amsterdam from 1939 to 1945, and Professor of Private Law, Industrial Property Law and Civil Procedure from 1945 to 1957. The archive includes documents concerning his teaching activities as well as lectures and publications.

Cras (1739-1820). Cras kan beschouwd worden als degene die het vak rechtsgeleerdheid aan het Athenaeum Illustre deed herleven. De collectie geeft vooral een goed beeld van de visie op de rechtsgeleerdheid in de tijd van de Verlichting, in het bijzonder op het natuurrecht.

This collection consists of material of H.C. Cras (1739-1820), a professor of law at the Athenaeum Illustre in Amsterdam and librarian of the Amsterdam municipal library. The collection contains handwritten comments and lectures, lists of lectures and lecture notes. Cras can be considered to be the one who revived law as a field of study at the Athenaeum Illustre. The collection gives a good impression of the view on law, in particular natural law, during the Enlightenment.

De collectie bestaat uit een bibliotheek, dictaten van zijn colleges en enkele andere aan zijn functie van hoogleraar gerelateerde documenten en objecten.

N.G. Pierson was one of the most important economists of the Netherlands. He was the professor of economics at the Universiteit van Amsterdam (1877-1885), president of the national bank, the Nederlandsche Bank, (1884-1891) and minister of finance (1891-1894, 1897-1901). The collection consists of his library, lecture notes and several objects and documents related to his function as a professor.

Zwaartepunten zijn geschriften van voor- en tegenstanders van het revolutionair anabaptisme, vroegreformatorische bijbels, theologische en polemische geschriften van vooraanstaande 17de-eeuwse en 18de-eeuwse leraren en werken over doopsgezinde literatoren en kunstenaars. Daarnaast is er een rijke prentencollectie. In de handschriftencollectie zijn er 16de-eeuwse tractaten van David Joris, de enige overgebleven brief van Menno Simons en 18de- tot 20de-eeuwse preken en collegedictaten. Ten slotte bevat de collectie het Doopsgezind Documentatiecentrum.

This collection contains the library of the Mennonite community in Amsterdam, the 'Doopsgezinde Gemeente Amsterdam' (VDGA), which was begun in 1680. From 1735 onwards the library was used for the Mennonite seminary. The core of the collection consists of documents by advocates and opponents of revolutionary Anabaptism, early reformational bibles, theological and polemical texts by leading 17th and 18th century teachers, documents about literary Mennonites and Mennonite artists. Besides this, there is a rich collection of prints. Finally, manuscripts were collected, for instance of the 16th century David Joris, of 18th to 20th Century lecture notes and the only letter that was left of Menno Simons. The Mennonite Documentation Centre is also included in his collection.
