Letterkundigen

Carry van Bruggen is een van de belangrijkste Nederlandse schrijfsters uit het begin van de twintigste eeuw en wordt sinds de tweede feministische golf beschouwd als een boegbeeld van de vrouwenemancipatie. Haar bekendste werken zijn het filosofische essay Prometheus en de roman Eva. Het archief (1921-1933) bestaat uit stukken betreffende haar depressie, uit aantekeningen en manuscripten en een aantal knipsels en recensies.

Carry van Bruggen is one of the major Dutch writers of the early twentieth century. Since the Second Feminist Wave, she is regarded as one of the leaders of women’s emancipation in the Netherlands. Her best known works are the philosophical essay Prometheus and the novel Eva. The archive (1921-1933) consists of items relating to her depression, as well as notes and manuscripts and a number of clippings and reviews.

Het archief van J.P. Hasebroek behelst een binnen de familie overgeleverde verzameling brieven, aantekeningen en foto’s uit de nalatenschap van de letterkundige en theoloog Johannes Petrus Hasebroek (1812–1896).

The archive of Johannes Petrus Hasebroek (1812–1896) has been preserved by his family and encompasses a collection of letters, notes and photographs from the legacy of this literary scholar and theologian.

Mea Nijland-Verwey (1892-1978) was dichter, letterkundige en uitgeefster. Het archief bestaat uit persoonlijke stukken en manuscripten van haar eigen werk, stukken betreffende het beheer van de literaire nalatenschap van haar vader Albert Verwey en de administratie van uitgeverij C.A. Mees, met redactiedossiers en uitgeverscorrespondentie.

Mea Nijland-Verwey (1892-1978) was a poet, woman of letters and publisher. The archive consists of personal documents and manuscripts of her work, documents relating to the management of the literary estate of her father Albert Verwey and the accounts of C.A. Mees publishers, including editorial files and publisher’s correspondence.

De collectie bestaat uit ca. 520 geschilderde en gebeeldhouwde portretten, hoofdzakelijk van hoogleraren van het Athenaeum Illustre en haar opvolger, de Universiteit van Amsterdam. Daarnaast zijn er portretten van wetenschappers uit de collectie van Gerardus van Papenbroeck en portretten van letterkundigen, verzamelaars, boekhandelaren en vertegenwoordigers van belangrijke bewegingen, zoals het Réveil, van wie de archieven zich bij de Bijzondere Collecties bevinden. De belangrijkste Nederlandse portrettisten zijn in deze collectie vertegenwoordigd.

The collection contains approximately 520 painted portraits and busts, mostly of professors of the University of Amsterdam and of its predecessor, the Athenaeum Illustre. In addition, it contains portraits from the collection of Gerardus van Papenbroeck, portraits of writers, collectors, booksellers and of representatives of important movements, such as the Dutch religious movement Réveil, when these collections are contained in the archives of the Bijzondere Collecties. Several of the major Dutch portraitists are represented in this collection.

Het Tollens-Fonds werd in 1850 opgericht met het doel de letterkunde en dichtkunst te bevorderen en oudere dichters, schrijvers en hun nabestaanden financieel te ondersteunen. Het archief beslaat de jaren 1850-1996 en bevat notulen van vergaderingen, interne en externe correspondentie, financiële administratie, stukken betreffende tegemoetkomingen en uitreiking van de Tollens-prijs en de Jacobson-prijs, en een aantal kranten, brochures, boeken en foto’s.

The Tollens Fund was set up in 1850 to promote literature and poetry and to provide financial support to elderly poets, writers and their next of kin. The archive spans the years 1850-1996 and contains minutes of meetings, internal and external correspondence, financial administration, documents on subsidies, the awarding of the Tollens Prize and the Jacobson Prize, as well as a number of newspapers, brochures, books and photographs.

Het archief van Albert Verwey (1865-1937) bestaat uit de literaire en wetenschappelijke nalatenschap van de schrijver, criticus en literatuurhistoricus Albert Verwey. Naast manuscripten, documentatie, boeken en overdrukken bevat het een uitzonderlijke hoeveelheid ingekomen brieven en afschriften van verzonden brieven. Voorts is documentatie- en beeldmateriaal aanwezig. Het archief is onmisbaar voor de bestudering van leven en werk van Albert Verwey en biedt inzicht in het literaire en geestelijke klimaat van zijn generatie.

The archive of Albert Verwey (1865-1937) contains literary and scholarly papers of the writer of prose, poetry and drama, the critic of literature and the Leiden professor of literature Albert Verwey. Together with many manuscripts, books and off-prints of many articles and sections with documentary and iconographical materials, the Archive of Albert Verwey includes circa 20.000 letters to Verwey as well as circa 10.000 letters from his hand. The substantial importance of the collection for teaching and research in many fields can be enlarged by including the Verwey materials of a number of other collections at the Allard Pierson, such as the collections of his children Mea and Floris Verwey, of his brothers-in-law Frederik van Eeden and Willem Witsen, as well as Verwey collections brought together by others.

Het archief van de Nederlandse dichter Arie Visser (1944-1997) bestaat uit diens literaire nalatenschap, voor het grootste deel bestaande uit handschriften, typoscripten, exemplaren van zijn werk en knipsels uit de kranten en tijdschriften waarin hij publiceerde.

The archive of the Dutch poet Arie Visser (1944-1997) consists of his literary estate, which largely comprises manuscripts, typescripts, copies of his work and clippings from the newspapers and periodicals in which he published.
