Theater

Belangrijke collectie op het gebied van het Nederlandse toneel, met toneelstukken, aankondigingen van theaters en toneelgezelschappen en kostuumprenten, verzameld door de amateur-toneelschrijver en mecenas van het Nederlandse toneel Johannes Hilman (1802-1881).

De uit Hengelo afkomstige Eduard Pool (1874-1968) was directeur van N.V. Nederlandse Kunstweverij in Hengelo. Daarnaast richtte Pool de Hengelose afdeling van de Nederlandse Zionisten Bond op en de Hengelose afdeling van de Maatschappij tot Nut van Israëlieten. Als overtuigd zionist zat Pool in de organisatie van het achtste zionistische congres dat in 1907 in Den Haag werd gehouden. In dat jaar publiceerde hij 'De noodzakelijkheid van het Zionisme' en 'Palestina, geographie, economie en kolonisatie'. In 1914 was hij redacteur van het tijdschrift 'De Maccabeër'. Het archief van Eduard Pool bestaat uit correspondentie met diverse afdelingen van de Nederlandse Zionisten Bond (NZB) en persoonlijke correspondentie. Daarnaast is er materiaal gerelateerd aan verschillende verenigingen uit Hengelo en omgeving.

Eduard Pool (1874-1968) of Hengelo was director of NV Nederlandse Kunstweverij in the same town. He also served on the board of the Association of Dutch Tyre Manufacturers and the ANWB, the Royal Dutch Touring Club. He founded the Hengelo branch of the Dutch Zionist League (NZB) and the Society for the Welfare of Israelites. A committed Zionist, Pool was one of the organisers of the eighth Zionist congress, which was held in The Hague in 1907. Pool published 'The Necessity of Zionism' and 'Palestine, geography, economy and colonisation'. In 1914, he was editor of the journal 'De Maccabeër'. The archive of Eduard Pool consists of correspondence with various branches of the Dutch Zionist League, as well as personal correspondence. Programmes, invitations and circulars relating to Twente have been added to the archive. The collection also includes two notebooks containing the chronicles of the drama society De Harmonie of Hengelo.

Dankzij de belangstelling voor Nederlandse letterkunde waren er al vroeg toneelteksten en werken over het toneel opgenomen in de Stadsbibliotheek van Amsterdam. Een zwaartepunt werd het toneel met aanzienlijke schenkingen en aankopen betreffende toneel. De toneelcollectie van de Universiteit van Amsterdam bevat een groot aantal losse en gebonden aanplakbiljetten, programma's, programmaboekjes en aankondigingen van voorstellingen vertoond in verschillende schouwburgen en theaters in Amsterdam en andere plaatsen in Nederland en Vlaanderen.

Thanks to the interest in Dutch literature, theatre plays and works about the theatre were included in the City Library of Amsterdam already early on. The theatre became a primary collecting area when major donations and purchases in this field were added to the collection. The theatre collection of the University of Amsterdam includes a large number of single and bound playbills, programmes and announcements of performances staged in various theatres in Amsterdam and other places in the Netherlands and Flanders.

Nicolaas Wijnberg (1918-2006) was een veelzijdig kunstenaar en choreograaf. Hij werkte voornamelijk met lithografie. Wijnberg maakte onder andere affiches voor verschillende opdrachtgevers. Ook ontwierp hij boekomslagen. Naast zijn grafische werk was hij ook schilder, tekenaar en ontwierp hij decors en kostuums voor theater. In dit archief zijn voornamelijk eindproducten van affiches, boekomslagen en ander drukwerk aanwezig. Het archief bevat weinig documentatie, correspondentie of persoonlijke stukken. Wijnbergs werk kenmerkt zich door de hang naar illustratie en figuratieve elementen. Daardoor is zijn archief een unieke toevoeging aan de geschiedenis van grafisch ontwerp in Nederland.
