Verenigingen

De Amsterdamse vereniging Beny Berith Bebeth Jacob werd in 1881 opgericht en werd, waarschijnlijk wegens de slechte financiële situatie, in 1936 ontbonden. De doelstelling van de vereniging was het houden van godsdienstoefeningen volgens de regels van de joodse riten. Het archief geeft een goed overzicht van de werkzaamheden van de vereniging. Het materiaal bestaat uit agenda's en verslagen van vergaderingen met de daarbij behorende aantekeningen. Verder bevat het archief onder andere correspondentie, kasboeken en ledenlijsten.

The Amsterdam association Beny Berith Bebeth Jacob was established in 1881 and dissolved in 1936, probably as a result of the unfavourable financial climate. The objective of the Association was to hold religious services in accordance with Jewish rites. The archive provides a good overview of the Association's activities. The material consists of agendas and reports from meetings with accompanying notes. The archive also contains correspondence, cashbooks and membership lists.

De wereldwijde organisatie B'nai B'rith heeft haar oorsprong in Amerika. De belangrijkste reden voor de oprichting in 1843 was het creëren van wederzijds begrip en respect tussen de verschillende joodse bevolkingsgroepen en het verhogen van de levensstandaard. Deze doelstelling wordt tot op heden in acht genomen. Het archief van de loge B'nai B'rith Hilleel, die in 1923 in Amsterdam werd opgericht, beslaat alleen de naoorlogse periode tot eind jaren vijftig. Het bevat voornamelijk financiële stukken zoals begrotingen, jaarverslagen en jaarrekeningen.

B'nai B'rith is a worldwide organisation that originated in the United States. Founded in 1843, its main objective was to foster understanding and respect between the various Jewish communities and to raise their standard of living. These continue to be the organisation's objectives to this day. The archive of the B'nai B'rith Hilleel lodge, established in Amsterdam in 1923, covers only the post-war period up until the late 1950s. It consists primarily of financial papers, including annual reports and annual accounts with budgets.

De collectie joodse verenigingen is door de Bibliotheca Rosenthaliana verzameld. Het bevat materiaal van 220 joodse verenigingen, commissies en instellingen op het gebied van liefdadigheid, gezondheidszorg, religieuze en culturele activiteiten, onderwijs en maatschappelijke belangen van voor de Tweede Wereldoorlog. Van elke vereniging of instelling zijn er een of meer stukken verzameld. Het merendeel van deze stukken bestaat uit door de organisaties verspreid drukwerk.

The Jewish Associations collection in the Bibliotheca Rosenthaliana contains material from various associations from before the Second World War. In all, it has material from 220 Jewish associations, committees and institutions in the fields of charity, health care, religious and cultural activities, education and social concerns. The collection contains one or more papers for each association or institution. The majority of the papers consist of printed material distributed by the various organisations.

Salomon Izak Zwartz (1879-1965), de in Oldenzaal geboren fabrikant van jute, was sinds 1904 actief binnen de joodse gemeenschap van Oldenzaal. Hij was secretaris, bestuurslid en voorzitter van diverse verenigingen en zamelde geld in voor de Pekidim en Amarkalim van het Heilige Land. In 1916 werd Salomon benoemd tot lid en in 1937 tot voorzitter van de kerkenraad van de Nederlands-Israëlitische gemeente Oldenzaal. Het voorzitterschap vervulde hij tot de opheffing van de gemeente in 1948. De hier beschreven archieven van de joodse gemeenschap van Oldenzaal zijn door toedoen van Zwartz in de Bibliotheca Rosenthaliana opgenomen. De joodse gemeente van Oldenzaal, die halverwege de achttiende eeuw ontstond, was een van de grootste joodse gemeentes in Twente en vervulde zelfs enige tijd een regiofunctie. In het begin van de 20e eeuw telde de gemeente bijna 250 personen; na de Tweede Wereldoorlog nog geen tien personen. Het archief van de joodse gemeente van Oldenzaal bevat onder andere notulen van de kerkenraad, ingekomen en uitgaande stukken met betrekking tot het kerkbestuur, reglementen, kiezers- en presentielijsten en financiële stukken. De archieven van de joodse verenigingen bevatten hoofdzakelijk notulen, correspondentie, reglementen, presentielijsten van vergaderingen en financiële stukken. Ook persoonlijke documenten van de familie Zwartz en van Isaak Krukziener maken deel uit van deze collectie.

Salomon Izak Zwartz (1879-1965), a jute manufacturer born in Oldenzaal, was an active member of the Jewish congregation in Oldenzaal since 1904. He was secretary, board member and chairman of various associations, and he collected money for the Pekidim and Amarkalim of the Holy Land. In 1916, Salomon was appointed a member, and in 1937 chairman, of the church council of the Dutch Israelite Congregation of Oldenzaal. He held the chairmanship until the congregation was dissolved in 1948. It is because of Zwartz that the archives of the Jewish congregation (as described here) have been added to the collection of the Bibliotheca Rosenthaliana. The Jewish congregation of Oldenzaal, which developed in the mid-eighteenth century, was one of the largest Jewish congregations in Twente. It even played a regional role for a time. In the early twentieth century, the congregation numbered almost 250 people; after the Second World War, fewer than ten. The archive of the Oldenzaal Jewish congregation includes church council minutes, incoming and outgoing papers relating to the council, regulations, voter and attendance lists, and financial papers. The archives of the Jewish associations consist largely of minutes, correspondence, regulations, attendance lists for meetings and financial papers. The collection also includes personal documents of the Zwartz family and of Isaak Krukziener.

De uit Hengelo afkomstige Eduard Pool (1874-1968) was directeur van N.V. Nederlandse Kunstweverij in Hengelo. Daarnaast richtte Pool de Hengelose afdeling van de Nederlandse Zionisten Bond op en de Hengelose afdeling van de Maatschappij tot Nut van Israëlieten. Als overtuigd zionist zat Pool in de organisatie van het achtste zionistische congres dat in 1907 in Den Haag werd gehouden. In dat jaar publiceerde hij 'De noodzakelijkheid van het Zionisme' en 'Palestina, geographie, economie en kolonisatie'. In 1914 was hij redacteur van het tijdschrift 'De Maccabeër'. Het archief van Eduard Pool bestaat uit correspondentie met diverse afdelingen van de Nederlandse Zionisten Bond (NZB) en persoonlijke correspondentie. Daarnaast is er materiaal gerelateerd aan verschillende verenigingen uit Hengelo en omgeving.

Eduard Pool (1874-1968) of Hengelo was director of NV Nederlandse Kunstweverij in the same town. He also served on the board of the Association of Dutch Tyre Manufacturers and the ANWB, the Royal Dutch Touring Club. He founded the Hengelo branch of the Dutch Zionist League (NZB) and the Society for the Welfare of Israelites. A committed Zionist, Pool was one of the organisers of the eighth Zionist congress, which was held in The Hague in 1907. Pool published 'The Necessity of Zionism' and 'Palestine, geography, economy and colonisation'. In 1914, he was editor of the journal 'De Maccabeër'. The archive of Eduard Pool consists of correspondence with various branches of the Dutch Zionist League, as well as personal correspondence. Programmes, invitations and circulars relating to Twente have been added to the archive. The collection also includes two notebooks containing the chronicles of the drama society De Harmonie of Hengelo.

Philip Abraham Samson was een vooraanstaand Surinaams jurist en historicus. De Collectie Samson in de Bibliotheca Rosenthaliana bevat een gedeelte van het materiaal dat door Samson werd verzameld. Zij geeft enerzijds een beeld van de joodse gemeenschap in Suriname in de eerste helft van de 20ste eeuw, anderzijds ook een zeer persoonlijk beeld van de verzamelaar. De collectie bevat daarnaast persoonlijke archivalia van Samson, waaronder correspondentie, teksten van lezingen, radioredes en toneelstukken van zijn hand. Daarnaast bevat de collectie stukken omtrent de Joden-Savanne en de Nederlands-Israëlitische Gemeente in Suriname.

Philip Abraham Samson was a prominent Surinamese lawyer and historian. The Samson Collection in the Bibliotheca Rosenthaliana contains a portion of the material that Samson collected. It paints a picture of the Jewish community in Suriname in the first half of the twentieth century, as well as a highly personal picture of the collector. The collection also contains Samson's personal archivalia, including correspondence, the texts of lectures, radio talks and his plays. It also includes papers about the Joden-Savanne and the Dutch Israelite congregation in Suriname.

Het Stripschap is een vereniging die de kennis van en de waardering voor de strip in het algemeen en de Nederlandse strip in het bijzonder wil bevorderen. Het archief bevat correspondentie en andere documenten die de weerslag vormen van de activiteiten van deze vereniging.

In 1872 werd de Vereniging tot Aanmoediging van het Arme Schoolkind te Amsterdam opgericht om de hygiëne te bevorderen van arme joodse schoolkinderen in Amsterdam. Ook richtte de vereniging zich op het bevorderen van regelmatig schoolbezoek. Op 8 april 1942 werd de vereniging ontbonden. In het archief bevinden zich een notulenboek over de periode 1894-1919, jaarverslagen over de periode 1912-1917, enkele ledenlijsten en correspondentie.

The Association for the Support of Poor School Children was established in Amsterdam in 1872 to promote hygiene among poor Jewish children in Amsterdam. The association also aimed to encourage regular school attendance. It was dissolved on 8 April 1942. The archives contain a book of minutes for the period 1894-1919, annual reports for the period 1912-1917, several membership lists and correspondence.
