Book weeks

De fotocollectie is afkomstig van Boekblad, nieuwsblad voor het boekenvak, en bestaat voor het grootste gedeelte uit zwart-witfoto’s en enkele kleurenfoto’s in diverse formaten. Deze zijn gebruikt in het tijdschrift tussen 1980 en 2007. Op de foto’s zijn Nederlandse en internationale auteurs, boekverkopers en andere personen uit het boekenvak te zien. Ook boekhandels, literaire evenementen in binnen- en buitenland en prijsuitreikingen zijn afgebeeld. Het belang van de collectie betreft de beeldvorming in foto’s van de hele keten van boekproductie, boekpromotie en boekdistributie.

The photography collection is derived from Boekblad, a Dutch book trade newspaper, and largely consists of black and white photographs and a number of colour photographs in various formats that were featured in the periodical between 1980 and 2007. The photos show authors from the Netherlands and abroad, booksellers and other people active in the book trade. Others show bookshops, national and international literary events and award ceremonies. The collection’s significance lies in the range of images that capture the process from book production and promotion to book distribution.

De Stichting Collectieve Propaganda van het Nederlandse Boek (CPNB) is opgericht door de branche-organisaties van boekverkopers en uitgevers, en heeft tot doel het lezen van boeken en het boekenbezit te stimuleren. De collectie bevat promotiemateriaal dat ter ondersteuning van diverse landelijke campagnes is verspreid. De collectie biedt een overzicht van de collectieve boekpromotie in Nederland, vanaf de start in de jaren dertig van de twintigste eeuw.

In 1983 the 'Stichting Collectieve Propaganda van het Nederlandse Boek', an institution promoting the Dutch book, was established by sector organizations of book sellers and book publishers. The institution aims to stimulate the reading and possession of books in general. The collection contains promotional material that was circulated in support of a range of national campaigns. It offers an overview of collective book promotion in the Netherlands from the start of the nineteen thirties.

De collectie boekhandelstasjes is verzameld door Jacobus Cornelis (Sjaak) Hubregtse (1944-2007). Na zijn overlijden zijn nog enkele recentere materialen toegevoegd. De collectie bestaat uit draagtasjes van verschillende materiaalsoorten zoals papier, plastic en linnen die afkomstig zijn van boekhandels, boekenmarkten, uitgevers, (grafische) bedrijven, stichtingen, musea, organisatoren van literaire evenementen, dagbladen, tijdschriften, bibliotheken, archieven en onderwijsinstellingen. De tasjes zijn bedrukt met uiteenlopende typografie, bedrijfsnamen, reclame-uitingen, slogans en citaten. De veelal kleurrijk geïllustreerde tasjes geven een tijdsbeeld van de promotionele activiteiten vanuit de boekhandel.

The book bags collection was started by Jacobus Cornelis (Sjaak) Hubregtse (1944-2007) and supplemented with a few more recent materials after his death. The collection consists of carrier bags made of different materials such as paper, plastic and linen, as provided by bookshops, book fairs, graphic and other companies, private foundations, museums, organizers of literary events, newspapers, periodicals, libraries, archives and educational institutions. The bags show a wide variety of typography, company names, commercial advertising, slogans and quotes. The often colourfully illustrated bags characterize the book trade’s promotional activities over the years.
