De bibliotheek van het Begijnhof Amsterdam bevat handschriften en drukken van de 15e tot de 20e eeuw. De collectie is door de eeuwen heen in hoofdzaak opgebouwd uit de bibliotheken van pastoors van het Begijnhof onder wie D. van der Mye, S. Coetenburgh, N.J.A. Steins Bisschop en B.H. Klönne. De collectie is van belang voor onderzoek naar onderwerpen als het Mirakel van Amsterdam, de geschiedenis van het Begijnhof en Amsterdamse kerkmuziek. Ook de geschiedenis van de Amsterdamse katholieken, het Jansenisme en de April-beweging zijn goed vertegenwoordigd. In de collectie bevinden zich diverse unieke en zeldzame stukken.

The library of the Begijnhof (Beguinage) in Amsterdam contains manuscripts and books of the 15th to 20th centuries. The collection was formed mainly by the priests of the Begijnhof, such as D. van der Mye, S. Coetenburgh, N.J.A. Steins Bisschop and B.H. Klönne. The collection is important for research into various topics, such as the Miracle of Amsterdam, the history of the Beguinage and church music in Amsterdam. Other well represented topics are the history of Roman Catholics in Amsterdam, Jansenism and the violent protestant response to the restoration of the episcopal hierarchy in April of 1853. The collection contains a number of unique and rare documents.

Arie van den Berg (Alkmaar, 1948) is dichter, poëziecriticus voor NRC Handelsblad, docent aan de Schrijversvakschool in Amsterdam en bevlogen verzamelaar. De collectie bestaat uit populair drukwerk uit diverse Europese landen, waaronder volksboeken en prenten, pamfletten, plano’s en losse katernen.

Arie van den Berg (Alkmaar, 1948) is a poet, poetry critic for NRC Handelblad, teacher at the Schrijversvakschool Amsterdam and an inspired collector. This collection consists of popular prints from various European countries, including folk books and prints, pamphlets, broadsheets and loose quires.

The economist, professor and writer Arnold Heertje (1934-2020) spent a large part of his life collecting books, pamphlets, letters and manuscripts in the field of economics. The collection now in the Allard Pierson is limited to printed books and pamphlets and contains circa 3,500 items. The Heertje library is known worldwide as one of the foremost collections in the field of economic history. The works of all major economic writers are here represented, often in rare first editions, or copies annotated by the author or other major scientists, such as the first edition of Mandeville’s Fable of the Bees, Adam Smith’s The Wealth of Nations, David Ricardo’s Principles of Political Economy and Karl Marx’ Das Kapital. After Heertje’s death the library was managed by the Stichting tot Beheer van de Heertje Bibliotheek.

Arnold Heertje (1934-2020), econoom, hoogleraar en publicist, besteedde een groot deel van zijn leven aan het verzamelen van boeken, pamfletten, brieven en manuscripten op het gebied van de economie. De collectie die zich nu in het Allard Pierson bevindt bevat alleen de gedrukte boeken en pamfletten en bestaat uit circa 3500 items. De Heertje-bibliotheek staat wereldwijd bekend als een van de belangrijkste op het terrein van de economische geschiedenis. De werken van alle grote economische schrijvers zijn erin vertegenwoordigd, vaak in zeldzame eerste edities of voorzien van aantekeningen van de auteur of van andere belangrijke wetenschappers, zoals de eerste druk van Mandeville’s Fable of the Bees, Adam Smith’s The wealth of nations, David Ricardo’s Principles of political economy en Karl Marx’ Das Kapital. Na de dood van Heertje werd de bibliotheek beheerd door de Stichting tot Beheer van de Heertje Bibliotheek.

Bibliotheek van de Remonstrantse Gemeente Amsterdam (1636-heden). Het zwaartepunt van de collectie boeken, prenten, pamfletten en handschriften ligt in de periode van het begin van de zeventiende tot de eerste helft van de achttiende eeuw.
