De collectie omvat 1750 foto's en negatieven van de hand van Heinz Baudert, die in de jaren 1950-1980 een algemeen erkend oeuvre opbouwde rond het thema circus.

The collection consists of 1750 photoprints and reels, made by Heinz Baudert in the decades 1950-1980 focussing on the world of the circus.

De fotocollectie is afkomstig van Boekblad, nieuwsblad voor het boekenvak, en bestaat voor het grootste gedeelte uit zwart-witfoto’s en enkele kleurenfoto’s in diverse formaten. Deze zijn gebruikt in het tijdschrift tussen 1980 en 2007. Op de foto’s zijn Nederlandse en internationale auteurs, boekverkopers en andere personen uit het boekenvak te zien. Ook boekhandels, literaire evenementen in binnen- en buitenland en prijsuitreikingen zijn afgebeeld. Het belang van de collectie betreft de beeldvorming in foto’s van de hele keten van boekproductie, boekpromotie en boekdistributie.

The photography collection is derived from Boekblad, a Dutch book trade newspaper, and largely consists of black and white photographs and a number of colour photographs in various formats that were featured in the periodical between 1980 and 2007. The photos show authors from the Netherlands and abroad, booksellers and other people active in the book trade. Others show bookshops, national and international literary events and award ceremonies. The collection’s significance lies in the range of images that capture the process from book production and promotion to book distribution.

De ruim 50.000 foto’s in deze collectie zijn afkomstig uit het bezit van het in 1865 opgerichte Nieuw Israëlietisch Weekblad (NIW). Ze geven een goed beeld van de belangstelling voor het Nederlandse en internationaal georiënteerde Joodse leven. Bijna de helft van de opnamen is gemaakt in Nederland; ongeveer een derde in het huidige Israël. De collectie is opgebouwd vanaf 1921, toen de eerste foto in het NIW gepubliceerd werd, en beslaat analoge foto’s en negatieven uit de periode 1850-2007, zij het met de nadruk op naoorlogse foto’s. Van het vooroorlogse Joodse leven bewijzen een kleine duizend foto’s. Bijna driekwart van het materiaal is nooit gepubliceerd in het NIW, en van een derde is de naam van de fotograaf bekend. In het Kenniscentrum van het Joods Museum (Amsterdam) is de collectie digitaal te raadplegen.

This collection containing over 50,000 photos is derived from Nieuw Israëlietisch Weekblad (NIW), a periodical founded in 1865. The photos offer a good impression of the interest in Jewish life in the Netherlands and elsewhere. Almost half of the photos were taken in the Netherlands; about one third in present-day Israel. The collection was started in 1921, when NIW featured its first photograph, and contains analogue photographs and negatives from the period 1850-2007, though with an emphasis on post-war photographs. Jewish life before WWII is documented in around a thousand photographs. Almost three quarters of the material was never published in NIW; of one third of the material the photographer’s name is known. The collection can be viewed online at the Resource centre of the Jewish Cultural Quarter (Amsterdam).

Ralph Prins (1926-2015) was een Nederlandse beeldend kunstenaar en vormgever. Hij was ontwerper van beeldmerken, affiches en boekomslagen, fotograaf, schilder en tekenaar. Ook ontwierp hij meerdere herdenkingsmonumenten waaronder het Nationaal Monument Westerbork. Zijn archief bestaat uit door hem ontworpen briefpapier, tijdschriften, brochures, affiches en overig drukwerk.

Ralph Prins (1926-2015) was a Dutch visual artist and designer. He was a designer of logos, posters and book jackets, photographer, painter and draughtsman. He also designed multiple memorial monuments, including the National Monument Westerbork. His archive incorporates letter paper designed by him, magazines, brochures, posters and other printed material.
