Archief van Sjoerd Hofstra, van 1949 tot 1968 hoogleraar sociologie aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam, actief op het gebied van de antropologie en de sociale geografie. Vóór zijn aanstelling in Amsterdam werkte hij als directeur van het Museum voor Land- en Volkenkunde en het Maritiem Museum in Rotterdam; hij was bijzonder hoogleraar in Leiden en was voorzitter van de Dierenbescherming. Zijn archief bevat onder meer correspondentie, wetenschappelijke aantekeningen, lezingen, collegedictaten en foto's.

The archive of Sjoerd Hofstra, who was a professor of sociology at the University of Amsterdam from 1949 to 1968 and active in the field of anthropology and social geography. Prior to his appointment at Amsterdam he worked as director of the Museum voor Land- en Volkenkunde (Museum for Geography and Ethnology) and the Maritiem Museum (Maritime Museum) in Rotterdam; he was endowed professor at Leiden and chairman of the Dierenbescherming, the Dutch society for the protection of animals. His archive includes correspondence, scientific notes, lectures, lecture notes and photographs.

Wetenschappelijk archief met correspondentie, publicaties en de bijbehorende fotocollectie van A.N.J. den Hollander, socioloog en amerikanist. Bevat de neerslag van veel internationaal onderzoek, vooral verricht in de Verenigde Staten in de jaren twintig en dertig. De meer dan 1500 foto's zijn grotendeels afkomstig van internationale persbureaus.

This collection of academic material was acquired in 1992 and contains the correspondence and publications of A.N.J. den Hollander (1906-1976), a professor of sociology and American studies at the University of Amsterdam. Besides this, there are more than 1500 photographs which he used to illustrate the articles. The material reflects his international research, in particular his research in the United States in the period 1920-1940. The photographs mostly originate from international press agencies.
