De collectie bestaat uit enkele receptenboeken, daarnaast uit ruim 1710 dia's of zogenaamde lantaarnplaatjes betreffende alle aspecten van de farmacie, aangeschaft ten behoeve van het onderwijs in de farmacie aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam. De collectie dateert voornamelijk uit de tijd van de hoogleraar Pieter van der Wielen (aangesteld van 1901 tot 1942). De encyclopedische aard van de diacollectie maakt dit onderdeel tot een uitstekende bron voor de studie naar de geschiedenis van de farmacie.

The collection consists of several pharmacopoeias and more than 1,710 so-called 'lantern slides', showing all aspects of pharmaceutics. Both books and slides were purchased for teaching pharmacology at the University of Amsterdam. Most of the collection dates from the first half of the 20th century, when Pieter van der Wielen was a professor at the University of Amsterdam (1901-1942). Due to the encyclopedic nature of the slides this part of the collection forms an excellent source for research into the history of pharmaceutics.

Het archief van Maurits Nanning van Loon bevat het materiaal dat te maken heeft met zijn archeologische activiteiten. Het bestaat vooral uit papieren materiaal voortkomend uit veldwerk en zijn hoogleraarschap, zoals correspondentie en documentatiemateriaal van een aantal opgravingen. Verder bevat het archief dia’s, foto’s, films en opgravingsmateriaal.

The archive of Maurits Nanning van Loon contains material related to his archaeological activities. It consists mainly of paper material derived from fieldwork and his professorship, such as correspondence and documentation of a number of excavations. Furthermore, the archive contains slides, photos, movies and excavation material.

Frits Portielje werkte van 1906 tot 1953 bij de Amsterdamse dierentuin Artis. Hij verwierf brede bekendheid door zijn lezingen, radiopraatjes en Verkade-albums over Artis en het dierenleven. Portielje wordt gezien als een van de grondleggers van de ethologie – de diergedragsstudies – in Nederland. De collectie bevat een persoonlijk archief met onder andere correspondentie en aantekeningen en een grote verzameling afbeeldingen van dieren, zowel foto's en knipsels als glazen diapositieven en negatieven. Portielje gebruikte dit materiaal voor lezingen, als illustraties in zijn boeken en als onderzoeksmateriaal.

Frits Portielje worked for Amsterdam Artis zoo from 1906 to 1953. He became widely known through his lectures, radio talks and Verkade picture albums on Artis and animal life. Portielje is regarded as one of the pioneers of ethology – the science of animal behaviour – in the Netherlands. The collection includes a personal archive that includes correspondence and notes and a large collection of animal pictures, both photographs and cuttings as well as glass diapositives and negatives. Portielje used them for his lectures, as illustrations for his books and as research material.
