Vanaf 1923 is het de geschiedenis van het kartel, dat via het Reglement Handelsverkeer en de vaste boekenprijs de boekenmarkt domineerde. Archieven van fondsen en commissies van de Vereeniging die vaak taken uitvoerden die na 2000 uit de Vereeniging verzelfstandigd werden, maken eveneens deel uit van het archief.

The large archive of the Vereeniging ter bevordering van de belangen des Boekhandels (association for the promotion of booksellers’ interests) documents the history of the Dutch book trade since the early nineteenth century. From 1923 the focus has been on the history of the syndicate, which dominated the book market through the Reglement Handelsverkeer (trade regulation) and the fixed book price. Archives of funding bodies and committees of the Vereeniging, which often performed tasks that are carried out by other, independent bodies, since 2000, are also part of this archive.

The archive of an association of prospective book traders working in Amsterdam. The aim of the association was to increase the knowledge of its members of their trade and related professions, in particular literature. As such, the association organized weekly lectures, it distributed books and periodicals and founded a library. The archive contains the rules and regulations, library catalogues, excerpts of annual reports, minutes, portraits, manuscripts and correspondence.

De collectie omvat in de eerste plaats de bibliotheek van de Verenigde Doopsgezinde Gemeente Amsterdam (VDGA), begonnen in 1680. Deze bibliotheek werd vanaf 1735 gebruikt voor de Doopsgezinde Kweekschool. Zwaartepunten zijn geschriften van voor- en tegenstanders van het revolutionair anabaptisme, vroegreformatorische bijbels, theologische en polemische geschriften van vooraanstaande 17de-eeuwse en 18de-eeuwse leraren en werken over doopsgezinde literatoren en kunstenaars. Daarnaast is er een rijke prentencollectie. In de handschriftencollectie zijn er 16de-eeuwse tractaten van David Joris, de enige overgebleven brief van Menno Simons en 18de- tot 20de-eeuwse preken en collegedictaten. Ten slotte bevat de collectie het Doopsgezind Documentatiecentrum.

This collection contains the library of the Mennonite community in Amsterdam, the 'Doopsgezinde Gemeente Amsterdam' (VDGA), which was begun in 1680. From 1735 onwards the library was used for the Mennonite seminary. The core of the collection consists of documents by advocates and opponents of revolutionary Anabaptism, early reformational bibles, theological and polemical texts by leading 17th and 18th century teachers, documents about literary Mennonites and Mennonite artists. Besides this, there is a rich collection of prints. Finally, manuscripts were collected, for instance of the 16th century David Joris, of 18th to 20th Century lecture notes and the only letter that was left of Menno Simons. The Mennonite Documentation Centre is also included in his collection.

In 1872 werd de Vereniging tot Aanmoediging van het Arme Schoolkind te Amsterdam opgericht om de hygiëne te bevorderen van arme joodse schoolkinderen in Amsterdam. Ook richtte de vereniging zich op het bevorderen van regelmatig schoolbezoek. Op 8 april 1942 werd de vereniging ontbonden. In het archief bevinden zich een notulenboek over de periode 1894-1919, jaarverslagen over de periode 1912-1917, enkele ledenlijsten en correspondentie.

The Association for the Support of Poor School Children was established in Amsterdam in 1872 to promote hygiene among poor Jewish children in Amsterdam. The association also aimed to encourage regular school attendance. It was dissolved on 8 April 1942. The archives contain a book of minutes for the period 1894-1919, annual reports for the period 1912-1917, several membership lists and correspondence.

De componist Matthijs Vermeulen (1888-1967), geboren Van der Meulen, is de auteur van symfonieën (zeven), kamermuziek, liederen en enkele boeken over muziek en filosofie. Hij was daarnaast criticus en essayist. In 1921 vestigde Vermeulen zich met vrouw en kinderen in Frankrijk. Hij voorzag in zijn levensonderhoud door het schrijven van artikelen voor het Soerabaiasch Handelsblad. Tijdens de oorlog verloor Vermeulen zijn vrouw en zoon Josquin. In 1946 keerde hij terug naar Nederland en werd recensent bij De Groene Amsterdammer. Hij hertrouwde met Thea Diepenbrock. Sindsdien componeerde hij nog twee liederen, het Strijkkwartet en de Zesde en Zevende Symfonie. Hij overleed op 26 juli 1967 in Laren.

The composer Matthijs Vermeulen (1888-1967), né Van der Meulen, is the author of symphonies (seven), instrumental and vocal chamber music and books about music and philosophy. He was also a renowned music critic and essayist. In 1921 Vermeulen settled in France with his wife and children sustaining his livelihood through writing articles for the Soerabaiasch Handelsblad, a Dutch East-Indies daily. During the war Vermeulen lost both his wife and his son Josquin. In 1946 he returned to the Netherlands and became a music critic for De Groene Amsterdammer. He remarried with Thea Diepenbrock. Since then he composed two more songs, the String Quartet and the Sixth and Seventh Symphonies. Matthijs Vermeulen died on July 26, 1967 in Laren.

The archive of Albert Verwey (1865-1937) contains literary and scholarly papers of the writer of prose, poetry and drama, the critic of literature and the Leiden professor of literature Albert Verwey. Together with many manuscripts, books and off-prints of many articles and sections with documentary and iconographical materials, the Archive of Albert Verwey includes circa 20.000 letters to Verwey as well as circa 10.000 letters from his hand. The substantial importance of the collection for teaching and research in many fields can be enlarged by including the Verwey materials of a number of other collections at the Allard Pierson, such as the collections of his children Mea and Floris Verwey, of his brothers-in-law Frederik van Eeden and Willem Witsen, as well as Verwey collections brought together by others.

Manuscript material from the legacy of Jacob Visser, a teacher of Dutch language and literature who lived from 1899 to 1989. It contains personal material - mainly correspondence - about his dissertation on the life of the Dutch author Willem Levinus Penning (1840-1924), published in 1933. The collection also includes 118 letters, mostly written between 1882 and 1887, obtained by Jacob Visser from the archive of the Dutch publisher Willem Gosler (1858-1921).

Het Vrij Dispuutgezelschap V.I.V.A.T. werd in 1908 opgericht als dispuut van het Amsterdamsch Studenten Corps (nu A.S.C./A.V.S.V.). Dit dispuut levert traditioneel veel roeiers aan Nereus. Zoals verschillende disputen kreeg V.I.V.A.T. het in de jaren zeventig moeilijk, maar het maakte in 1977 een succesvolle doorstart. Het archief, dat redelijk compleet is, bevat financiële stukken uit de periode 1907-1983 en correspondentie uit de periode 1907-1983. Verder zijn er verslagen, notulenboeken, presentielijsten en dergelijke. Ook 410 foto's maken er deel van uit.

V.I.V.A.T., the Free Debating Society, was founded in 1908 as the debating society of the Amsterdamsch Studenten Corps, the Amsterdam Student Union, nowadays A.S.C./A.V.S.V. This debating society traditionally supplies Nereus with many rowers. As for other debating societies the nineteen seventies were a difficult period for V.I.V.A.T. but in 1977 it started up again with success. The collection consists of archival material and is reasonably complete. It contains financial documents and correspondence during the period 1907-1983. Besides this, there are reports, minute books, membership lists and similar documents. The collection includes 410 photographs.

The "Collectie Geschiedenis van de Voeding" (History of Food Collection) at the Special Collections of the University of Amsterdam contains almost all the important Dutch historical cookery books, a selection of foreign cookery books, books about diets, about dietary studies, home economics, table setting, etiquette and numerous other subjects on food and drink. The collection includes several subcollections: the Library of the Netherlands Bureau for Food and Nutrition Education, the "Collectie Culinair Museum Amersfoort" and a part of the "Gastronomische Bibliotheek" (Gastronomic Library). The History of Food Collection offers a unique possibility to research all aspects of the history of food and drink.

The Volapük collection contains works in and about Volapük, including grammars, dictionaries, course books and many periodicals and archival material deriving from Johann Martin Schleyer and various Volapük societies. The collection provides an overview of the history of the constructed language Volapük, mainly in the Netherlands and Germany, and of the propaganda made for Volapük throughout the world.

De collectie bevat Nederlandse en buitenlandse gedrukte kookboeken uit de periode 1781-1987, enkele afleveringen van tijdschriften, handschriften met recepten en enkele boeken over de geschiedenis van de kookkunst. De collectie biedt inzicht in veranderingen in de bereidingswijze van voedsel in de negentiende en twintigste eeuw.

The Netherlands Bureau for Food and Nutrition Education (Voorlichtingsbureau voor de Voeding), incorporated in the Netherlands Nutrition Centre since 2000, is an independent organisation, funded by the Dutch government, to provide information on dietary health and food safety. In 1996 the Bureau donated part of its library to the Library of the University of Amsterdam. The collection includes 19th and 20th century cookery books printed in the Netherlands and abroad, and some manuscripts on food and cookery. The collection enables research into the history of food in the Netherlands.

Karel Hendrik Voous (1920–2002) was een vooraanstaand ornitholoog en natuurbeschermer. In 1947–1964 was hij conservator van de Vogelafdeling van het Zoölogisch Museum te Amsterdam. Dankzij hem verdubbelde de collectie en veranderde de afdeling van een bescheiden, vooral educatief museum met hoofdzakelijk opgezette vogels tot een belangrijk internationaal georiënteerd onderzoeksinstituut. Ook was Voous buitengewoon hoogleraar in de zoögeografie (1955–1963) en vervolgens gewoon hoogleraar dierkunde (1964–1975) aan de Vrije Universiteit te Amsterdam. Het archief bevat correspondentie, reisdagboeken, manuscripten en fotoalbums. Een substantieel onderdeel bestaat uit het manuscript en typoscript van het door Voous geschreven boek In de ban van vogels. Geschiedenis van de beoefening van de ornithologie in Nederland in de twintigste eeuw uit 1995.

Karel Hendrik Voous (1920–2002) was a leading ornithologist and nature conservationist. Between 1947–1964 he was curator of the Bird Department of the Zoological Museum Amsterdam. The collection doubled thanks to his efforts, while he also transformed the department from a modest, mainly educational museum primarily rich in stuffed birds into a major internationally oriented research institute. Voous was also endowed professor of zoogeography (1955–1963), later full professor of zoology (1964–1975), at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. The archive contains correspondence, travel diaries, manuscripts and photo albums. A substantial part of the archive consists of the manuscript and typescript of Voous’ In de ban van vogels. Geschiedenis van de beoefening van de ornithologie in Nederland in de twintigste eeuw, his history of the practice of ornithology in the Netherlands in the twentieth century, which was published in 1995.

Archief van Hugo de Vries, hoogleraar plantkunde aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam 1878-1918. Bevat correspondentie, aantekeningen van wetenschappelijk onderzoek, materiaal betreffende publicaties en lezingen, eerbewijzen, herinneringen aan buitenlandse studiereizen, stukken over zijn colleges en excursies met studenten, alsmede over zijn directeurschap van de Hortus Botanicus. Het archief geeft inzicht in het werk van een Nederlands botanicus die wereldfaam verwierf met nieuwe inzichten in de mechanismen van evolutie en erfelijkheid.

Archive of Hugo de Vries, professor at the University of Amsterdam from 1878 until 1918. Contains correspondence, notes of his scientific research, documents concerning publications and lectures, tokens of honour, souvenirs from his travels abroad, documents relating to his lectures for university students, and documents concerning his directorship of the Hortus Botanicus of the University of Amsterdam. The archive illustrates the work of a Dutch botanist who gained worldwide fame with novel insights into the mechanisms of speciation and heredity.

R.W.P. de Vries (1841-1919) was boekhandelaar-veilinghouder en lange tijd bestuurslid van de Vereeniging ter bevordering van de belangen des Boekhandels. Het archief bestaat uit huldeblijken en andere documenten omtrent de jubileumvieringen van het boekhandelaarschap van De Vries, alsmede stukken over de afwikkeling van collectieveilingen.

Bookseller and auctioneer R.W.P. de Vries (1841-1919) was a long-standing member of the board of the Vereeniging ter bevordering van de belangen des Boekhandels (association for the promotion of booksellers’ interests). The archive consists of written tributes and other documents relating to the jubilees of De Vries as a bookseller, as well as documents on the completion of auctions of collections.

Simon Philip de Vries (Neede 1870 - Bergen Belsen 1944) behaalde de hoogste graad van godsdienstleraar aan het Nederlands-Israëlitisch Seminarium. Een jaar later werd hij aangenomen als leraar, hoofdonderwijzer en secretaris van de joodse gemeente in Haarlem. Toen De Vries in dat jaar alsnog zijn titel van rabbijn wist te behalen werd hij ook rabbijn van deze joodse gemeente. In 1927 en 1932 werden de artikelen die De Vries in 'De Oprechte Haarlemsche Courant' had gepubliceerd, uitgegeven onder de titel 'Joodsche riten en symbolen'. Het zou het meest bekende en gelezen werk van De Vries worden. Het handschriftelijke materiaal in het archief bestaat uit preken, toespraken, lezingen, exegese en aantekeningen over Hebreeuwse grammatica. Het gedrukte materiaal bestaat uit De Vries' artikelen die in 'De Oprechte Haarlemsche Courant' zijn verschenen.

Simon Philip de Vries (Neede 1870 - Bergen Belsen 1944) obtained the highest qualification of teacher of religion at the Amsterdam Rabbinical Seminary. One year later, he was employed as teacher, headmaster and secretary of the Jewish congregation in Haarlem. In the same year, De Vries was awarded the degree of rabbi and became rabbi of the congregation. Articles published by De Vries in 'De Oprechte Haarlemsche Courant' appeared under the title 'Jewish rites and symbols' in 1927 and 1932. This was to become De Vries's best-known and most widely read work. The handwritten material in the archive comprises sermons, addresses, lectures, exegeses and notes on Hebrew grammar. The printed material is made up of De Vries's articles that appeared in 'De Oprechte Haarlemsche Courant'.
