Stripschap

Uitgeverij Big Balloon was jarenlang een toonaangevende kinder- en stripboekenuitgeverij. In 1990 werden veel van de uitgaven van stripuitgeverij Oberon voortgezet, waaronder stripalbums maar ook striptijdschriften, zoals Eppo, Eppo Wordt vervolgd, Sjors & Sjimmie Stripblad, SjoSji en Striparazzi. In 2005 werd besloten om op een paar titels na te stoppen met het uitgeven van strips en werd het album- en striptijdschriftenarchief geschonken aan het Stripschap. Het Stripschap heeft op zijn beurt de Big Balloon-collectie toegevoegd aan het bestaande bruikleen aan de Universiteitsbibliotheek. Het archief bevat dossiers van stripalbums en van tijdschriftenstrips met zwartwit-films, originele tekeningen en omslagen, inkleuringen, vertalingen en vele albums en tijdschriften.

For many years Big Balloon was a leading publisher of children’s books and comic strips. In 1990 the company took over many of the titles of former comic strip publishers Oberon, not only comic strip albums but also comic strip magazines such as Eppo, Eppo Wordt Vervolgd, Sjors & Sjimmie Stripblad, SjoSji and Striparazzi. In 2005 it was decided to stop publishing comic strips, with the exception of a few titles. The company’s archive of comic strip albums and magazines was donated to Het Stripschap. This society of comic strip enthusiasts subsequently added the Big Balloon collection to the existing loan agreement with the University Library. The archive includes files on comic strip albums and serialized comic strips with black and white-films, original drawings and jackets, colourings, translations and numerous albums and magazines.

De collectie bestaat uit de schenking van een groot aantal stripalbums uit de collectie van P. Hans Frankfurther aan het Stripdocumentatiecentrum Nederland, dat mede door hem werd opgericht. De collectie bevat een groot aantal strips van Nederlandse bodem maar ook kleinere unieke verzamelingen reclamestrips en pornografische strips.

Het Stripdocumentatiecentrum Nederland (SDCN) is een van de grootste openbare stripcollecties in Nederland. Het werd opgericht door Het Stripschap en de Universiteitsbibliotheek in 1970 en documenteert de geschiedenis van de strip in Nederland. De collectie bevat strips, striptijdschriften en krantenknipsels over strips en archieven van striptekenaars. Er is ook veel secundaire literatuur aanwezig, evenals originele tekeningen. Daaronder bijna alle Dick Bos-verhalen door Alfred Mazure (MAZ) en tekeningen van diverse andere bekende striptekenaars.

The Stripdocumentatiecentrum Nederland (SDCN, Netherlands Comics Documentation Centre) is one of the largest public comics collections in the Netherlands. Founded in 1970 by the Dutch organization of comic book fans Het Stripschap and the Library of the University of Amsterdam, the SDCN documents the history of comics in the Netherlands. The collection includes comic books, comics periodicals and newspaper clippings on comics and archives of comics artists. There’s an abundance of secondary sources, as well as original drawings, including almost all Dick Bos comics by Alfred Mazure (MAZ), and drawings by several other major comics artists.

Het Stripschap is een vereniging die de kennis van en de waardering voor de strip in het algemeen en de Nederlandse strip in het bijzonder wil bevorderen. Het archief bevat correspondentie en andere documenten die de weerslag vormen van de activiteiten van deze vereniging.

Het Stripschap is a society that tries to stimulate the appreciation for and the knowledge of the comic in general and especially the Dutch comic. This archive contains correspondence and documents about the history of the society.
