H.J.W. Becht (Publisher)

Het archief is het bedrijfsarchief van een van de grote Nederlandse algemene uitgeverijen, die vanaf 1892 zeer succesvol opereerde. In het fonds van Becht namen kinderboeken een belangrijke plaats in, evenals Scandinavische auteurs. In 1969 ging Becht samen met de uitgeverij J.H. de Bussy, die een sterk en serieus non-fictiefonds voerde. De uitgeverijen Van Campen en Ruys maakten deel uit van de uitgeverij van De Bussy. Het archief omvat materiaal uit de beginperiode van de uitgeverij, veel correspondentie en productiedossiers, beide uit latere perioden.

This is the business archive of one of the Netherlands’ major general publishers, which was very successful from the time of its establishment in 1892. Children’s books and Scandinavian authors ranked high on Becht’s publishing list. In 1969 Becht merged with J.H. de Bussy, a publisher who had built a strong and significant non-fiction list. The publishing firms of Van Campen and Ruys were part of De Bussy’s publishing house. The archive contains materials from the early years of the firm, as well as a great deal of correspondence and production files, the latter two dating from later times.

Het archief van uitgeverij H. Honig (1892-1992) bevat informatie over de bedrijfsvoering en vooral financiële administratie van de uitgeverij. Het archief bevat voornamelijk stukken uit de periode 1890-1980. Interessant zijn vooral de kopieboeken van rond 1900 met doorslagen van uitgaande brieven aan auteurs en het fondsboek van eind 19e eeuw, met overzichten van de per boek gemaakte kosten en baten. Het archief biedt inzicht in de organisatie en het fonds van een laat-19e- en 20e-eeuwse Utrechtse uitgeverij.

The archive of the Dutch publisher H. Honig contains information on the running of the firm and financial administration. The archive mainly consists of documents that date from 1890-1980. Particularly interesting are the copybooks containing copies of all outgoing letters from around 1900 and a stock list from the last decade of the 19th century that describes all costs and revenues per book. The archive provides an insight into the organisation of a Dutch publisher in Utrecht in the late 19th and 20th centuries.
